Wood + Honey

These are our inaugural hives that started it all! In the Spring of 2023, the queen from the all blue hive with a few thousand bees swarmed to a nearby honeysuckle grove. We were able to successfully re-house them and they were affectionately dubbed the Hideaway Hive. Due to this event, our blue hive was out to a late start this summer, but has bounced back with their new queen.

Created when our primary hive swarmed in late May 2023. In the picture, you can see where they swarmed a honeysuckle branch. Luckily we shook them into a ‘deep’ box and they seemed more than happy to set up their new home. They have done exceptionally well and are excellent honey producers.

The Best in Class swarm occurred a little earlier than expected (May 8) in the Spring of 2022 and was a monster! We were fortunate enough to catch them, and created the Hideaway Hive.

This hive was created when we needed to split one of our spring hives to prevent swarming. We have recently added a second box. They seem very content nestled in with some of the wildflowers we have on our property. Hoping to harvest some honey from them this fall, however, we are mostly hoping to get them prepared for the coming winter.

Another hive tucked away amongst the wildflowers and honeysuckle bushes, we created this hive as a preventative to spring swarming. They are very prolific this summer and we are anticipating lots of gorgeous honey this fall!
